Website & Blog:
This web log is for the use of the Sleepy Hollow Manor Nursing Home residents & their friends and families. I have provided this new weblog, & the Sleepy Hollow Manor web pages, for our information & collaboration. We are independent of the owners of Sleepy Hollow Manor, on my personal website, since they decided to withdraw their support of the resident's web account. - - - After I built the website, many folk began to visit it, instead of coming to our meetings. I no longer have as much time for its maintenance, but there is a good deal of information there now, such as a list of the staff positions [www.erols.com/jbirch/ffc/staff.html].
I hope this web-log will allow folk to share immediate or timely information more quickly, and without as much work on my part. - - - - - The residents web pages are still available, and you can contact me thru the Activities office or by email if you like.
Please use it to share observations, concerns and issues related to our loved ones lives here. - - - - - See also our own website at www.erols.com/jbirch/ffc for much more information, especially for new folk.
--- Please let me know how I can make this more useful to you. ---

Call for assistance:
I've been trying to keep the residents computer going, despite quite a few attacks by trojans, spyware, and viruses. System files are getting corrupted, and disappearing, and the antivirus and firewall have been damaged also.
If someone has a usable "Windows 98 SE" installation CD, it would be easier to keep it running smoother for the increasingly frustrated residents. Feel free to call me at 533-3668

We just returned from the Van Trip to the Holocost museum. It was fairly well done, and finally includes some references to more recent genocides as well. It is 5 floors of some very intense stuff. Later, we had a picnic lunch in the Capitol Marina, across from Ladybird Johnson Park.

I have the original w98se CD for that machine. It was stored in the old Activities Desk. You can pick it up at the desk.

Is it true that they are going to take away all personal refrigerators because they use too much electricity?
Does anyone know what we can do about it?
Sara J.

The workmen have begun mudding the corridor walls in preparation for new wall paper in West 1, so it will be a bit chaotic for a few days.
John B.
PS: Sara, Yes but I think they were also concerned about maintenance and freon leakage in the little mis-treated refrigerators. The compressorless electric warmer/refers are apparently fine for in room use.

The hall & the 2 painted walls of the West 2 lobby are complete. They have now started on the rooms, from the far end, and are working now on rm 216. At about 5 days per room, it will take several months to complete them all, and you can calculate about when you can help move your resident's room. Each resident must move to a room on north, and then back to their re-furbished room.

The D.C. Ombudsman Program will actively follow the closure of Beverly Living Center, over 330 residents is the largest nursing facility in Washington, D.C. Jerry Kasunic, the D.C.Ombudsman, met with Beverly officials, to ensure safe and orderly transfer of
residents, be approved by
the D.C. Department of Health. officials indicated the facility will remain open as long as it takes to so. The move might require more than 90 days, for lack of options in D.C. & have to
partner with neighboring states for
placements. D.C. Department of Health failed to pass rules for Assisted living licensure.
The ombudsman program will be meeting with both resident and family councils to provide assistance and share information.
