Announcement: Beverly Ent. is trying to provide to the friends and family of each resident, a free private web page at http://connect.carepages.com/sleepyhollow/{page_name}.
The purpose of this page is to give residents & their friends an easier way to coordinate and share in support of the residents. I.E.: Keep us informed about loved one's issues (not usually medical stuff); Share news, Schedules, plans, & stories of visits; memories; pictures; visitors post messages for other friends or resident; greeting cards; send private messages to staff (they promise to read daily, any messages sent to the staff.) ...
Each page is to be controlled by the resident's 'responsible person', who should have received a letter describing this service, and an authorization form to fill and return to Ellen Chabin, the Executive Director of SHM 703.256.7000.
BEI tried only to send the notification to the 'designated contact', but they messed up the contact information in my letter. So if you know someone at SHM, and would like to participate, please encourage your contact person to send in the authorization, and sign you up.
If you are a resident's contact and did not receive the envelope containing a letter, flyer, and authorization, or you don't know your resident's 'contact', contact Ms. Chabin.
These pages will be on a site provided by www.CarePages.com (support 888.852.5521 Mary or Jim), and are being set up as (3-4 days?) they are requested.
They don't seem to have thought about how the residents can use their page. Those staff who know of the Family Council's "Resident's Computer" presumed that it would be sufficient. I cannot setup pages for residents, but intend to volunteer my time to help residents who ask, or whose contact asks. If we are allowed to return the resident's computer (which was taken away because the work station did not match the new furniture) anyone can help a resident view and use their page. For the less mobile, we could occasionally print their page.
I think this could be a big help to the purpose of the Family Council, and make life easier for many residents and their loved ones.
Other issues I intend to address, include what happens as people move in and out, and how resident friends can share more easily.
I will try to keep you abreast of how things go, but do keep in touch.

!!! The Residents' computer is back! It is now in the Crystal room, near the piano, on a new work table. It is working, but should not browse the web until a separate phone line is installed. There is not yet a mousing support surface, but I am pursuing that, for those (most) who have difficulty with extend arm strength & fine motor control. In the mean time I have recovered & distributed the missed e-Mails.
. Please encourage all users to ask me for a refresher lesson on using the computer, if they feel their skills have gotten rusty during its absence.
. As always, for those who have not used it before, ask me or activities if you would like a quick tutorial on the computer use. It covers easy computer use, games, puzzles, word processing, browsing the internet, e-Mailing, or any other skill you would like.
